Next Steps 4-Week Course
Not sure what to do next? There are many techniques that can be learned and improved on to progress your climbing ability. The core basics that can help massively are footwork, transfer of power, body positioning and route reading. We will be running these sessions on Thursday and Friday evenings through winter 2025-26 - book 1 session or all 4!
Week 1 - Footwork
Improve your climbing by looking at how to use your toes properly on climbing holds (especially those pesky small ones), positioning of the foot and techniques to swap your feet on climbing holds. |
Week 2 - Transfer of Power
“I can’t reach that next hold!” - Sound familiar? A rockover can often help to progress up the wall or to reach holds that would otherwise be out of reach. Learn and practice this skill with the advice of our instructors in different situations. |
Week 3 - Body Positioning
Stop those unnecessary swings, over-pulling with your arms and get better reach by positioning your body well. We will run through how to position your body well. Not only to make climbing feel easier but to reach further with less energy. |
Week 4 - Route Reading
Often people can get into trouble on a climb by mixing up the order of moves, getting confused or just flustered. Route reading can help with planning from the ground, so you know what to do before you start the climb. Learn about the differences of an onsight, flash and redpoint and how this might change your approach to planning. |

Steffan Jacob (Development Coach, RCDI)
I’ve been climbing for 7 years and helping people to achieve their climbing goals for the last 4 years - this has included goals such as people wanting to climb their first 7a, prepare for competitions and simply to enjoy climbing more! I am primarily a roped climber (both sport and trad) however I do also enjoy bouldering both indoors and out. I love helping people develop and achieve their goals in climbing whatever they may be! |
