The National Indoor Climbing Award Schemes. NICAS is a nationally accredited scheme designed to show progression from a novice climbing safely under supervision at level 1, through to lead climbing and competing at level 5. It is an ideal way to show progression and development of a skill and many teenagers use their logbooks as evidence for Duke of Edinburgh’s Award or GCSE PE. Participants pay a fee of £17.50 (NICAS Climbing and Bouldering) to register for the scheme and for their NICAS logbook. Levels 1 & 2 are taught through our Young Climbers Club which runs 4 times a week or our Teen Climbing Club (12-16yrs old). Levels 3, 4 & 5 are taught through dedicated sessions which you can book online. We now also offer NICAS Bouldering (Levels 1-3), NICAS Clip (using autobelays) and NICAS Ascend so there's something for everyone! NICAS Bouldering focusses on climbing movement and techniques and can be followed alongside NICAS Climbing or on its own - please ask an instructor or at reception for more information. NICAS Clip is run on Saturdays (11-16yr olds) and Sundays (6-10yrs old) and is ideal for those who want a shorter session focussing on climbing using the autobelays with warm ups and climbing techniques in the bouldering room. NICAS Ascend is a scheme for children with ALN, allowing for skills development in small groups (max 4) with lots of instructor support and personalised targets.
