Clydach
Activities Clydach is a real hub for activities! Just behind Dynamic Rock, you will find the Swansea Canal, lovingly restored and looked after by a team of volunteers. They offer kayaking from Coedgwilym Park, just a 20 minute walk from us. Also at Coedgwilym Park you will find a Parkrun every Saturday morning. Cycle route 43 runs past the centre, a 31 mile tarmac route from Coelbren to Swansea. At the other end of the High Street you'll find Yoga Place Abertawe in a beautiful old church. They offer yoga and other holistic therapies and have developed special Climbing for Yoga sessions for us! There are so many lovely walks around us! From Dynamic Rock you can walk along the canal towpath all the way to Trebanos and beyond (look out for the statue of the horse and the carved tree!) - there are maps in reception. Cross the road and you can follow a path past Forge Fach waterfall and on to the Cwm Clydach RSPB reserve where woodland trails lead you along the Lower Clydach river (Bailey and Barney's favourite place for chasing squirrels!). Paths lead out of the valley to Mynydd y Gwair, Mynydd Gellionnen and the Carn Llechart circular walk as well as the crags at Graig Cwm. Matt's favourite walk is a circular route around Mynydd Gelliwastad, look carefully and you might just spot us from the top of the hill!
During the summer holidays, we were fortunate to have received COAST funding to deliver a variety of sessions for free. This allowed those who had never climbed before to give it a go or to advance the skills of those who had previous experience. Climb with....
Teen ClubFunding allowed us to offer a weekly social climbing club for 12-14 year olds, building on the success of our popular Send it! teen club which came to an end in May. A group of teens enjoyed bouldering, roped climbing plus some games under the supervision of an instructor. Family SessionsIt was lovely to see families enjoying climbing together on our family taster sessions offering parents and children new shared experience! "We all thoroughly enjoyed the session. our instructor was really helpful and reassuring, thankyou!" Over 50s climbingOver 50s were treated to a variety of sessions, both indoors and outdoors! On Thursday afternoons we worked in partnership with Yoga Place Abertawe to offer a climbing taster followed by a yoga session, with a pause for a coffee and chat in between. It was lovely to see friendships develop as people tried out climbing or yoga (or both!) for the first time.
Over 4 weeks we ran a beginners climbing course developing skills and techniques on the climbing wall. Participants were registered for the NICAS scheme and were able to track their progress in logbooks. The final offering was outdoor climbing at Mumbles. 3 sessions gave participants the chance to get their hands and feet onto real rock under the careful supervision of an instructor. "Fantastic experience! My first time climbing, never thought I could do it at my age. Instructors are brilliant and inspire confidence." "Great day, excellent tuition and always felt safe. Definitely going to continue climbing - great fun, great exercise and very sociable!" Missed out this time? These free sessions are advertised on Swansea Council's website but also on our social media. Follow us on Facebook or Instagram! Day 1 - FridayDay 2 - Saturday
